Poor internet infrastructure is a major challenge for businesses operating in the country, which is Africa's largest oil producer. Broadband services for Nigeria's 190 million residents are either unreliable or unnecessary. Google launched a network of free Wi-Fi hotspots in Nigeria on Thursday to try to increase its presence in Africa's most populous country. Already in Lagos four places live, by the end of the year 2019, five additional Nigerian cities - Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, Enugu, Ibadan will be expanded to 200 places. It has been said that this will generate cash from service in Nigeria by placing Google ads in the login portal. Google did not disclose the amount invested in the new Nigeria service. The technology firm said that it planned to share revenue with its partners to help maintain and deploy Wi-Fi service but did not disclose the expected advertising revenue split. With rapid population growth of Africa, declining data cost and heavy adoption of mobile phones, this has become an attractive investment prospect for technology companies. Nigeria is the fifth country to launch Google station. Similar services have been launched in India, Indonesia, Mexico and Thailand. The goal of the service is in those countries which are rapidly expanding the population. The United Nations estimates that Nigeria will be the third most populous country after China and India by 2050. Last year, Google announced plans to train 10 million Africans in online skills within five years. It is also said that its goal was to provide African start-up $ 3 million in equity free support.
