Getting the Internet domain name in English is near, now get ready to keep it in regional languages. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a worldwide, non-profit company working for Web Area Title System (DNS) administration, to help the domain in some languages spoken in India. 22 Scheduled languages in the country.
"Work is on for nine Indian scripts — Bengali, Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Tamil, and Telugu. These scripts are expected to cover many different local languages," ICANN India head Samiran Gupta told PTI.
ICANN is working to create a safe and stable definition of top-level domains for scripts used globally, so that people with knowledge of English can go online and with full domain names, their languages Can access websites in. For Example,For this purpose, as an alternative to typing a site title in English, Hindi content can be entered in the field to obtain content, which is currently in force.
Nearly 52 percent of the world's population now have access to the Internet and ICANN is contributing towards the bridge of digital divisions. "The remaining 48% are the majority of non-English speaking people and those who do not have the power to sort in English, this work will be able to provide the domain for these people of the domain," ICANN India Head said.
When asked to search content in regional languages is already possible in Google and other search engines, he said that the current effort is focused on enabling domain names in regional languages, which in turn will find the system to find local language content Will enable.
He said, "To define the rules of domain names for languages spoken in India, this work is going on with dedicated community-based panel." The Neo-Brahmi Generation Panel, as it is called, consists of more than 60 technical experts and linguists from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Singapore, where these languages and scripts are used, Gupta said.
The proposals for six scripts – Devanagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Oriya, and Telugu — are already launched for public remark. “One can assessment these proposals and supply feedback by visiting www.icann.org/idn,” he mentioned. Currently, there are 4.2 billion Internet users globally which may rise to 5 billion by 2022, Gupta said.
